About me

Hello Fellow Wine Friends

Welcome to the wine world of Evmorfia Kostaki!

About me

The Basics

I grew up in the Greek island of Samos. After a lot of travelling I decided to come back in order to pursue my true passion, being in the vineyards and making wine. Stay tuned to follow my on this journey.

Travel has been major part of my life for the past years. I have visited all major wine-making regions in Europe. I have lived for more than 6 months in France, Italy and the US, and for weeks at a time in Germany, where I got immersed in the culture of every country. Coming back to Greece was an unexpected cultural shock, especially regarding the wine culture. This motivated my to start writing down my thoughts on this blog.

I like

I’m easy to please. Give me sparkling wine to win my mind and strawberry sorbet to win my stomach. Some jamon iberico can do the trick as well (sorry vegetarians). I can’t live without the sea. I don’t know how to surf, but I would love to learn. I hate exercise unless there is a purpose, like saving the vines from bad guy mildew.

A new adventure

Starting September 2020 I am officially a student again.

This time, the Master of Wine title is my goal!

Me, myself and I

At 25, and after a lot of wandering around I can happily say I was ready to settle down on one place. However, I don’t plan on letting my mind settling down. I want to be able to speak my mind about all-things-wine and to not stop exploring. I have been living in Samos for more than a year now, and it has been nothing but rewarding.

I am basically a bad chemist. After studying Chemistry in Athens, I left the lab life back to wonder in the fields. I have a joint Master degree in Viticulture and Enology, called Vinifera Euromaster from Montpellier and Udine, and I did my master thesis in Napa, in collaboration with UC Davis. I have also completed the WSET Diploma in Wines and Spirits. All this means I’ve drunk a lot of wine, and unfortunately I also spat a fair amount!

My philosophy

Our whole civilization must go back to the basics, with observation being at the core or our activities. Nature is the only thing that really matters, and is truly powerful. Fighting it makes no sense. We must work alongside it, cater to its needs and it will give back in return.
